Abstract

The ability of a road pavement structure to withstand traffic loads is a major part of road construction work, this requires pavement that has characteristics that are durable, strong, low cost and efficient. West Sulawesi has great potential in the field of oil palm agriculture by ranking second in Eastern Indonesia, with a land area of 72,506 hectares. This has an impact on the large amount of palm oil waste generated from the oil palm management company itself, especially in the oil palm shell. Therefore innovation is needed that can reduce palm shell waste and process it in such a way that it can benefit the community and the surrounding environment. One way is to use palm shell ash as a substitute for filler in the asphalt layer. The purpose of this study was to find out how the effect of using palm shell ash waste as a filler on the type of Asphalt Concrete – Wearing Course mixture with variations in the addition of 1.5%, 2.5% and 3.5% filler. In addition, this study also aims to analyze the effect of using 6.15% asphalt content on the mixture. From the research that has been done, it shows that with the addition of palm shell ash as a filler to the Asphalt Concrete – Wearing Course mixture with an asphalt content of 6.15%. The result was that, at a variation of 3.5%, it did not meet the specifications set by Bina Marga in 2018 div. 6. While the variations of 1.5% and 2.5% have met the 2018 General Highways specifications div. 6 and can be used as a mixture.
