Abstract


A weir is a hydraulic structure designed to raise the water level of a river in order to meet irrigation demands. The safety of a weir is highly dependent on the structural capacity to resist the acting forces; therefore, stability analysis is a critical aspect in the design and evaluation of weir structures. This study aims to: (1) determine the stability value of the Laiba Irrigation Area (D.I. Laiba) weir, and (2) assess the safety factor of the weir against acting forces under normal water level and flood water level conditions.

The research method employed consists of field surveys and manual analytical calculations based on both primary and secondary data. Primary data include measurements of the weir’s geometric dimensions and hydrological data, while secondary data consist of as-built drawings, soil data, and design documents. The stability analysis considers self-weight, hydrostatic forces, seismic forces, sediment pressure, and uplift pressure.

The results indicate that the Laiba Irrigation Area (D.I. Laiba) weir satisfies structural safety requirements. The calculated safety factors exceed the minimum allowable values specified by applicable design standards, both under normal water level and flood conditions. Therefore, the Laiba Irrigation Area (D.I. Laiba) weir is deemed structurally safe and technically feasible to support the irrigation system in Muna Regency.
